Leon Edwards became the first British champion since Michael Bisping in 2016 and only the second in history when he sensationally knocked out Kamaru Usman to win the welterweight title at UFC 278 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Behind on points in the fifth, Edwards landed a left high-kick to stun Nigeria’s pound-for-pound number one fighter with less than a minute to go.

30-year-old Edwards delivered on his pre-fight promise by avenging his 2015 defeat to Usman and ending the 35-year-old Nigerian’s 15-fight unbeaten streak in the UFC.

The Jamaican-born Edwards has now extended his winning streak to 10 following that defeat to Usman seven years ago.
