Manchester City have turned down a six-figure offer from Barcelona Femeni as they try to fend off interest in key midfielder Keira Walsh. The England international has a year left and has caught the attention of some of Europe’s top clubs this summer. Reports across Europe suggest Walsh is a preferred target for Barcelona Femeni and the Catalan giants are expected to make another offer before the transfer window closes.
City, who have already lost several high-profile players including England’s Georgia Stanway and Lucy Bronze who joined Bayern Munich and Barcelona respectively, are yet to comment on the move. However, the club is understood to be taking a firm stance that Walsh is not for sale.
Walsh played an influential role in England’s victory at Euro 2022, clinching the player of the match award in a 2-1 extra-time win over Germany at Wembley. In February 2020, she signed a three-year extension at City just months after submitting a transfer request. Walsh has been ubiquitous since making her City debut in 2014, winning eight major trophies. She is also widely regarded as one of England’s best midfielders.
