Second half goals from Afriyie Barnieh and Seidu Suraj helped Ghana take a giant step towards qualification for the African Nations Championship as they defeated Nigeria 2-0 in the first leg.
Nigeria’s home based Super Eagles team lost to their Ghanaian counterpart on Sunday during their 7th African Nations Championship final qualifying fixture.
The homebased Black Galaxies of Ghana overpowered the homebased Super Eagles whose relentless efforts to restore parity were in vain. Afriyie Barnieh scored from the spot in the 49th minute before Seidu Suraj thumped home in the 86th to put the hosts in the driving seat at the Cape Coast Stadium.
The result leaves the Super Eagles B with some work to do ahead of the return leg with both teams billed to square off again at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja on Saturday, 3rd of September.
The winner on aggregate over both legs will advance to the 2023 African Nations Championship which is set to be hosted by Algeria.
