Red Bull’s Max Verstappen was heads and shoulders above everyone else on the tracks as he took a stunning victory in the Belgian Grand Prix.

The leader on the Drivers’ championship table was in a class of his own as he fought from 14th to take an assertive lead from the 18th lap and disappeared into the distance leaving every other driver chasing the wind.

Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz held off Mercedes’ George Russell to finish third after Lewis Hamilton crashed out early in the race. Rival Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc finished fifth, but ended up being demoted to sixth as a penalty for speeding in the pit lane. This means Leclerc has now dropped to third place in the standings, five points behind Perez, with a 98-point deficit to Verstappen that is now looking very unrecoverable.
