Tuchel watched on from the stands as summer signing Raheem Sterling’s brace gave Chelsea a much-needed with over Leicester City.

Sterling put the hosts in front with a curling effort from just outside the penalty box that took a deflection off Leicester’s Daniel Amartey to beat Danny Ward in the Leicester goal. The £50 million signing would be GMA he did not have to wait long for his second goal after getting on the end of an inviting cross from Reece James and finishing beyond Danny Ward again.

The buildup to the game was intense with reports filtering in that the Blues had reached an agreement to snap up Foxes defender Wesley Fofana after a dramatic chase.

Connor Gallagher, who impressed on loan last season at Crystal Palace got himself sent off after diving in to stop Harvey Barnes, who would later get Leicester City’s consolation goal, from advancing.

The Blues were without boss Tuchel and defender Kalidou Koulibaly following his red card against Leeds United.
