Serena Williams stunned second seed Kontaveit to progress to the next round of the US Open.
The 40-year-old legendary tennis star showed she has no intention of ending her singles career without a fight after beating second seed Anett Kontaveit on another remarkable night at the US Open.
The American, who recently announced her intention to retire after her home major, has now advanced into the third round.
Ranked 605th, Williams won 7-6 (7-4) 2-6 6-2 to stun the Estonian at the Flushing Meadows in New York.
Serena Williams was playing just her sixth match after a 11-month lay-off which started after she retired with an injury at Wimbledon in July 2021
Serena Williams will now face Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic next on Friday.
