Nigeria’s Super Falcons scored their first goal in 20 years against the USWNT but still fell to a 1-2 defeat in a second friendly played in Washington DC.

Following the 4-0 humbling by the Americans in the first friendly in Kansas City last week, this performance was markedly improved and spirits from the Nigerians.

Falconets captain at the recently concluded FIFA u20 World Cup i Costa Rica Tosin Demehin was quite solid in the heart of the defence albeit scoring an own goal in the 25th minute for the Americans’ first of the night.

Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie pulled off a string of saves and Mexico-based striker Uchenna Kanu drew the Falcons level in the 49th minute.

It was only the second time this year that USWNT will concede.

However, the USA got the winning goal in the 67th minute through a Lavelle header off substitute Megan Rapinoe’s beautiful cross inside the area to deny Nigeria.
