German tactician Thomas Tuchel has parted ways with Chelsea Football Club according to a statement released on the club’s official website early Wednesday. This decision has been announced following the club’s 1-0 Champions League defeat away to Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday.
The 49-year-old former Borussia Dortmund and Paris St-Germain boss spent just about 20 months in charge at the Stamford Bridge.
Todd Boehly has now placed Tuchel’s coaching staff in temporary charge until a replacement is found. Top of the list of potential replacements at the club includes Frenchman Zinedine Zidane who guided Real Madrid to 3 successive UEFA Champions League titles.
A club statement said the owners believed it was “the right time” to bring in a new manager as it is believed that Tuchel had lost the confidence of the players and the board in recent times, and had become less communicative with both groups.
It is understood that the decision would have been taken regardless of the defeat in the Champions League opener in Zagreb on Tuesday night.
Chelsea started this season with two defeats in their first six games and are five points behind log leaders and city rivals Arsenal.
