New Chelsea manager Graham Potter did not get the start he envisaged as RB Salzburg held his side to a 1-1 draw at the Stamford Bridge.
This lacklustre draw as Potter began his Chelsea reign leaves the Blues with an uphill task in their attempt to qualify for the Champions League knockout stages.
Potter’s gamble to play Raheem Sterling as an advanced wing-back paid off when the forward curled into the bottom corner a few minutes after the start of the second half but the Austrian side got an equaliser on 75 minutes when Noah Okafor sent the ball into the back of the net from Junior Adamu’s low cross.
The game highlighted the plenty risks involved in Potter’s approach.
The Blues are now bottom of Group E after AC Milan’s 3-1 win over Dinamo Zagreb. With two games now gone in the Champions League group stage, Chelsea’s next attempt to progress from the group will be when they get into battle with the Serie A champions next at Stamford Bridge on 5th of October.
