In Ligue 1, Paris St. Germain suffered their first defeat since March when they were defeated by red-hot Lens. With Lois Openda scoring one goal and assisting another for Franck Haise’s team, second-placed Lens have only suffered one loss in 17 Ligue 1 games this season, and are now only four points behind Christophe Galtier’s team.

Przemyslaw Frankowski gave the hosts the lead after five minutes when he volleyed into an open goal off Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma’s initial block.

Hugo Ekitike soon restored parity for PSG but Openda gave Lens the lead once more in the 28th minute by eluding defender Marquinhos and firing past Donnarumma into the bottom corner.

Despite Kylian Mbappe playing the entire game, Alexis Claude-Maurice added a third goal two minutes into the second half, and the team from northern France managed to hold on for a very significant victory in this season’s title race.

On their first game back after the World Cup, Lens drew with Nice last week. They have won six of their last eight league games and all nine of their home games this season.

It will be recalled that just ten days after losing to Real Madrid in the Champions League, PSG suffered their most recent loss, a 3-0 loss to Monaco on March 20.
