According to a statement from Shakhtar Donetsk, Chelsea are close to signing forward Mykhailo Mudryk for a total fee of about €100million.

Details revealed by transfer sources indicate that Chelsea have agreed a fee of €70m (£62m) plus add-ons for the 22-year-old, who has been a January target for Premier League rivals Arsenal.

Arsenal have been in the market for a forward with Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus out injured and Mudryk, who has scored seven goals and made seven assists in 12 league appearances for Shakhtar this season alongside his three Champions League goals, looked to fit the profile of the Gunners.

Sources from the Ukrainian club yesterday revealed that Chelsea representatives met with the club’s directors and made an offer that beat that of Arsenal in structure and total package. Early reports point out a potential 7+ year contract is on the table for the talented forward who has made eight international appearances for Ukraine since making his debut in June 2022

Mudryk is expected to have a medical on Sunday morning after flying to London.

It is also interesting to note that Chelsea have made a €30m (£26.5m) bid for PSV Eindhoven’s England Under-21 winger Noni Madueke and are looking to make at least one more signing to bolster the attack before the January transfer window slams shut.
