Andy Murray is out of the Australian Open after  losing to Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut as Djokovic progressed at the expense of Grigor Dimitrov despite hamstring struggles.

Former world number one Murray finished his second-round match at 4am on Friday and, returning to court 39 hours later, was beaten 6-1 6-7 (7-9) 6-3 6-4.

The 35-year-old Scot, who had career-threatening hip surgery in 2019, was the last Briton to fall in the singles.

Earlier on Saturday, Dan Evans lost 6-4 6-2 6-3 to fifth seed Andrey Rublev.

Novak Djokovic defied more hamstring troubles to beat Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets and reach the fourth round of the Australian Open.

The nine-time champion required a medical timeout after he edged the opening set in a 7-6 (9-7) 6-3 6-4 win over the Bulgarian 27th seed.

Djokovic is hoping to win a men’s record-equalling 22nd Grand Slam title at Melbourne Park and it seems his to lose after a large number of seeds fell in the early rounds.

Djokovic’s reward for his win over Dimitrov, in which he again sported heavy strapping on his left thigh, is a meeting with Australian 22nd seed Alex de Minaur.

Fourth seed Caroline Garcia fought back to beat Laura Siegemund and reach the fourth round of the Australian Open.

The French 29-year-old, one of the picks for the title, came from behind to win 1-6 6-3 6-3 against the German world number 158.

There were also wins for fifth seed Aryna Sabalenka and 12th seed Belinda Bencic on Saturday.

Belarusian Sabalenka, who is aiming for her first Grand Slam singles title, beat her Belgian former doubles partner Elise Mertens 6-2 6-3.

She will face Bencic next after the Swiss registered a 6-2 7-5 win over Camila Giorgi of Italy.
