Wout Weghorst got his first Manchester United goal as the Red Devils put themselves in the driving seat in the Carabao Cup semifinal against Nottingham Forest.
The Manchester United faithful were the happier set of fans at the City Ground as their team coasted to a comfortable 3-0 win over Steve Cooper’s side in the Carabao Cup semifinal first leg.
In-form Marcus Rashford opened the scoring after manoeuvering through the Forest defenders before beating Wayne Hennessey at his near post with a left-footed strike.
Just before halftime, Dutchman Weghorst reacted the fastest to a rebound with the outside of his right foot to send the ball beyond the stand-in Forest goalkeeper into the gaping net.
United, who were in control of the game, got their third when Elanga (who had just come on) set the ball perfectly for Bruno Fernandes to fire home a low shot inside the box.
This came after substitute Facundo Pellistri had been thwarted a couple of times by the Forest defence.
Erik Ten Hag will now be a bit relaxed ahead of the second leg at the Old Trafford next week given he was able to take off some key players and give minutes to some of the United youngsters on the night.
