Hundreds of protesters stormed Ibadan, the Oyo state capital on Friday.

A police officer attached to the Governor’s office was injured in an attack by protesters.

Earlier, the Secretariat gate was locked on the information that pockets of protests had rocked different parts of the capital city.

The protesters who came with sticks, woods, broken bottles and other dangerous weapons forced the two main gates of the Secretariat open, making the security operatives on ground to take cover.

With many workers and people within the Secretariat running for safety, the protesters head straight to the Governor’s office, where they attempted to force the gate open.

The resistance by the officers on duty who fire blank shots into the air made the protesters resolved to throwing stones and other dangerous weapons into the governor’s office.

The officer had earlier attempted persuading the protesters, preaching calm, but was shocked to receive rain of stones, which led to his profuse bleeding.

The protesters were said to have taken to destroying property at sight.

Three suspects were arrested.

The protest which began peacefully at Agodi-Gate axis of Ibadan city,  has turned violence in some parts , with the burning of a police station and destruction of public utilities.

The situation has forced many banks to hurriedly shut down operations in the city .

There were reports that some banks were attacked by the protesters who were said to have damaged some of the ATM machines.

The swift intervention and backup from men of the Operation Burst and Police Team saved the situation that would have degenerated into a major crisis.
