Jadon Sancho’s fine finish helped Manchester United snatch a late draw in a pulsating Roses derby clash that almost saw Leeds United get a rare victory at the Old Trafford.

Electric winger Gnonto had put Leeds in the lead in the first minute after a sublime combination play with Bamford that caught the United defence napping.

The Red Devils looked down and out in the early stages of the second half when Varane contrived to put the ball in the back of his own net while trying to deal with a cutback but goals from Marcus Rashford and a seemingly revived Sancho helped United rally a comeback and could have gotten the win but for Frenchman Ilian Meslier’s save off a Varane header.

The result moves managerless Leeds United a point clear of the relegation zone and above West Ham into 16th, although after this superb contest, the Elland Road rematch in four days’ time will be an occasion to relish.

Manchester United have averaged 2.3 points and conceded 0.7 goals per game when Casemiro has started in the Premier League this season. Without him they are 1.4 points and 2.1 goals conceded.

Leeds’ Wilfried Gnonto (19years 95days) became the youngest player to score a Premier League goal against Manchester United at Old Trafford since Jermain Defoe (19years 62days) for West Ham in December 2001. He is the youngest overseas player to do so.

Since losing their first two games of the season, Manchester United have won 43 points in 20 Premier League matches. Only leaders Arsenal (44) have picked up more points in this period.
