Former Watford boss Javi Gracia has replaced Jesse Marsch as manager of Leeds United after agreeing terms with the Premier League club.

The 52 year-old Spaniard Gracia, who took Watford to the FA Cup final in 2019 before managing Valencia and Qatari club Al Sadd, replaces the American who was sacked on 6 February.

Leeds are currently 19th in the Premier League and host bottom club Southampton in their next game on Saturday.

The club announced that Gracia has been appointed on a flexible contract and will be in charge of the side against Saints subject to obtaining the necessary work permissions.

Leeds United have had a difficult time getting a new man to lead the team with an approach for Rayo Vallecano’s Andoni Iraola blocked, while Feyenoord’s Arne Slot ruled himself out.

Former Ajax manager Alfred Schreuder also fell out of contention after a negative reaction from many fans, and Carlos Corberan – who previously worked under Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds – opted to sign a new contract at West Brom.
