Fred and Antony both scored as Manchester United came from behind to knock Barcelona out of the Europa League with a 2-1 victory at Old Trafford.

Robert Lewandowski converted a penalty after Bruno Fernandes pulled leftback Alejandro Balde inside the penalty area in the 18th minute.

Xavi Hernandez’ side looked to build on the momentum for the remaining part of the first half but looked blunt in the final third.

Erik Ten Hag rang the changes at halftime with striker Wout Werghorst coming off for Antony who moved straight to the right wing to cause problems for Balde.

Pressure paid off early in the second half with Fred latching onto a loose ball just at the edge of Barca’s box to hit the ball beyond Ter Stegen with his weaker foot for the equalizer.

The Red Devils’ relentless forays paid off as Antony curled straight into the bottom corner inside the penalty area.

Manchester United will be holding on to this win as psychological boost ahead of this weekend’s League Cup final against Newcastle United.
