Chelsea have revealed that Brazilian defender Thiago Silva suffered knee ligament damage during Sunday’s 2-0 defeat at Tottenham.

The 38-year-old Brazil captain had a scan earlier but the West London club have not said how long he is likely to be out.

“Silva will now work closely with the club’s medical department during his rehabilitation to return to action as soon as possible,” said Chelsea.

Silva will miss next week’s Champions League last-16 second leg against Dortmund, which Chelsea trail 1-0.

Speculations suggest he will be out of action for six to eight weeks.

Graham Potter will now be looking towards the likes of January signing Benoit Badiashile, recent injury returnee Wesley Fofana as well as Kalidou Koulibaly to marshall the Blues’ defence in the coming games.
