Karim Benzema tapped into an empty net to give Real Madrid a 1-0 second leg win over Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League.

Real Madrid went into this game with a healthy 5-2 lead from the first leg a fortnight ago at Anfield and they immediately dominated proceedings at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu from start to finish.

Camavinga, impressive in a holding midfield role with Tchouameni on the bench, hit the bar while Alison Becker was forced into making some saves as Liverpool tried to find an inspiration for a comeback.

Vinicius Jr kept tormenting Trent Alexander-Arnold on the left wing with Karim Benzema always eager to make those attacking forays into the Liverpool box.

The French forward finally broke the deadlock in the 79th minute after a Camavinga pass pierced through the Liverpool defence with Virgil Van Dijk knocking an interception into the path of Vinicius, who after slipping and miscuing his shot, slid the ball past Van Dijk and the onrushing goalkeeper Alisson for Benzema to tap home.

The Video Assistant Referee was called into action for a check on a handball by Tsimikas who had come on for Andy Robertson but it was judged not worthy of a penalty call.

Jurgën Klopp got himself a yellow card for his touchline antics during the game.

The draw for the quarterfinals and semifinals will hold on Friday, 17 March with the last eight teams being Real Madrid, Napoli, Chelsea, Man City, Benfica, Inter Milan, AC Milan and Bayern Munich.
