Carlos Alcaraz ended Daniil Medvedev’s 19-match winning streak with a 6-3 6-2 victory to clinch his third ATP Masters 1000 title without facing a break point.
With his victory in the final of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, the 19-year-old joined compatriot Rafael Nadal as the only men to reach the three ATP Masters 1000 title mark as a teenager.
The Spaniard will chase a fourth, still two shy of Nadal’s tally before turning 20, when he aims to defend his Miami Open title from Saturday.
Alcaraz’s win sends him back to No. 1, a position he relinquished when he couldn’t play the Australian Open in January. The teenage sensation is already into his second stint at the top before clocking 20.
