A Matheus Nunes stunner in the 31st minute gave Wolverhampton Wanderers a 1-0 win over Chelsea on Lampard’s return.
Frank Lampard rang some changes for the first game of his second managerial stint with the Blues, opting for a Felix-Havertz-Sterling frontline but whatever optimism the team had before the game was washed off after half an hour as Matheus Nunes hit a screamer from inside the area after the Chelsea defence failed to properly clear their lines.
It was ‘different manager, same old Blues’ as profligacy and poor decision-making especially in the final third ensured Chelsea were stuck with just four wins in their last 20 games.
With some big away trips still to be executed and the club in 11th with 39 points after 30 games, there is indeed a lot of worries for the fanbase and this latest defeat to Lopetegui’s Wolves has further dampened the morale of many.
Wolves would be pleased at the victory given it might be a corner turned for them in an otherwise poor run of form in recent games.
