The Premier League have officially released a 40-player shortlist for the Team of the Season.

The release has been met with so much angst amongst fans across social media with many pointing out notable names missing on the list while others that are believed to have had poorer seasons are in the list.

The goalkeeping category has:

Newcastle United’s Nick Pope, Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale, Liverpool’s Alisson Becker, Fulham’s Bernd Leno and Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga.
The notable omissions here are:
Brentford’s David Raya who has made more saves than any other goalkeeper in the league this season and Manchester United’s David De Gea who has kept more clean sheets (14) than any other goalkeeper in the PL this season.

The defenders are:

Arsenal trio of Oleksandr Zinchenko, Gabriel Magalhães and William Saliba, Newcastle United’s Kieran Trippier and Sven Botman, Chelsea’s Thiago Silva, Manchester United’s duo of Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw, Brentford’s Ben Mee, Spurs’ Cristian Romero and Manchester City’s Rúben Dias.

In the midfield department, we have:

Martin Ødegaard of Arsenal,
Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne and Rodri, Manchester United’s Casemiro, Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimarães, Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister, Solly March and Kaoru Mitoma, João Palhinha of Fulham, Leicester City’s James Maddison, as well as Spurs’ duo of Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Højbjerg.

Bruno Fernandes, who has created the most chances in the league, was one of the standout names to be omitted in the shortlist.

The attackers in the list are:

Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, Riyad Mahrez and Jack Grealish, Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli,
Spurs’ Harry Kane, Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford, Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Darwin Núñez, Newcastle United’s Miguel Almirón, Ollie Watkins of Aston Villa and Chelsea’s Kai Havertz.
