Donyell Malen’s brace saw Borussia Dortmund return to the top of the Bundesliga with a 4-0 drubbing of Eintracht Frankfurt after Bayern Munich suffered a shock 3-1 loss to Mainz 05.
Donyell Malen doubled Dortmund’s lead five minutes after Jude Bellingham had put the Yellow-Black in the lead and Mats Hummels scored a third just before half-time.
Malen got his second goal of the game in the 66th minute as Dortmund stormed to a resounding victory that would boost their chances of winning the Bundesliga for the first time since 2012 with just five matches remaining.
Bayern Munich suffered their fourth Bundesliga defeat of the season at Mainz.
Three goals in 14 minutes from Ludovic Ajorque, Leandro Barreiro and Aaron Caricol saw the hosts stun Thomas Tuchel’s side despite the Bavarians taking a first half lead through Sadio Mane’s header after he got on the end of Joao Cancelo’s cross.
Mane, who returned to the starting line-up following suspension, also had an effort ruled out for offside following a VAR check.
The defeat is the club’s third in the seven games Tuchel has been in charge and the pressure looks worse as the season grinds closer to completion.
There is a lot to be worried about for the German giants as they have been knocked out of the DFB-Pokal as well as the Champions League within those 7 matches under Tuchel.
