Manchester City’s quest for a treble got a massive boost as Riyad Mahrez ‘s hattrick helped the Cityzens outclass Sheffield United in the first FA Cup semifinal at Wembley.
The Algerian’s hattrick is the first in a semifinal at Wembley and the first in an FA Cup semifinal since Manchester United’s Alex Dawson in 1958.
Mahrez scored his first via a penalty two minutes before half-time after Daniel Jebbison fouled Bernardo Silva, before meandering through an open Blades defence to get the second just after the hour.
Mahrez then got his third by sweeping Jack Grealish’s cross past Sheffield United goalkeeper Wes Foderingham after 66 minutes.
Up next for Pep Guardiola’s side is a title-defining clash with league leaders Arsenal at Etihad on Wednesday.
