Chelsea are close to a permanent appointment of former Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino with talks reaching an advanced stage according to reports.
The Blues have been on the search for Graham Potter’s replacement despite placing club legend Frank Lampard in charge on an interim basis.
Julian Nagelsmann withdrew from the race a couple of days ago leaving the Argentine coach and Vincent Kompany as the top candidates on the shortlist.
Reports say the Chelsea board have been more impressed with the discussions of Pochettino as well as his profile.
Mauricio Pochettino, who has not coached since leaving Paris Saint-Germain, started his managerial career at Espanyol in Spain where he earned high praises for his expansive style.
He then moved to Southampton before a stint at Tottenham Hotspurs where he cemented his place as one of the top coaches in Europe.
While with Spurs, he made it to the UEFA Champions League final where they lost to Liverpool – a feat considered an overachievement given the club’s history as well as how players like Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Son Heung-Min had blossomed into top stars under him.
His most recent job was at Paris Saint-Germain in France where he lost the league title to Lille who were managed by present PSG coach Christophe Galtier.
An announcement from Boehly and Eghbali is expected in the coming days as regards who will be in charge of Chelsea in the coming season.
