Arsenal returned to winning ways with a 3-1 victory over Chelsea in the London Derby at the Emirates Stadium.

Martin Odegaard opened the scoring with a firece shot past Kepa Arrizabalaga in the 18th minute after a low cross into the area found him.

The Gunners captain bagged his brace in similar fashion in the 31st minute but this time into the bottom right corner.

Three minutes later, Gabriel Jesus smashed the ball into the net to make it 3-0 in the 34th minute after the Chelsea defence failed to properly clear their lines in a goalmouth scramble.

Thiago Silva cleared the ball off the line after a Leandro Trossard corner almost resulted in a goal.

Noni Madueke, who had earlier scoffed a chance, got what would be a consolation goal for the Blues after he tapped the ball beyond the onrushing Gabriel Malghaes and Aaron Ramsdale after a long ball over the defence line caught Zinchenko napping in the penalty area.

For an encounter whose early stages was characterized with poor passing from both sides, Chelsea looked to come alive late on in the game but their scramble for a late comeback was self-sabotaged again and again in the final third.

The Blues have now lost all six games with Frank Lampard in interim charge – a run that has seen them concede a dozen goals with a paltry two goals scored.

Mikel Arteta will be worried about the fitness of Gabriel Malghaes after he appeared to have picked up a knock before being hooked for Rob Holding late in the game.

The Brazilian defender looked to strike a formidable partnership alongside Jakob Kiwior with Jorginho, who had an excellent outing against his former employers, seated in front of the defence.

Arteta’s side have now returned to the summit of the Premier League with two points and two games more than Manchester City as the title race looks set to go down the wire.
