The Department of State Services (DSS) has confirmed the arrest of Mr Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

DSS in a statement on Saturday said “Mr Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is now in its custody for some investigative reasons”.

Unconfirmed reports emerged late on Friday that operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS had arrested the suspended CBN governor.

However, early hours on Saturday, DSS revealed that the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, was not in its custody.

BCN reported that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu suspended Godwin Emefiele, from office with immediate effect, yesterday.

His arrest is sequel to the ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy.

Emefiele was directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the Central Bank Governor pending the conclusion of investigation and the reforms.

Reacting to the initial report, the Public Relations Officer, DSS, Peter Afunanya enjoined the public, particularly the Media, to apply utmost caution in the reportage and narratives concerning the situation.
