Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has said accident victims on states and local government roads will be rendered helpless if its officials are restricted to only federal roads.
FRSC whose activities are focused on making the highway safe for motorists and other road users, are seen to cause major delays on road networks in its operations.
This remarks was revealed in a statement by FRSC Corps Marshal, Dauda Ali Biu, on Tuesday, through the FRSC spokesman, Bisi Kazeem, following the judgement of a Court of Appeal sitting in Asaba, Delta State which restricted its operations to only federal roads and banned its officials from state and local government (LG) roads.
Biu said the Corps will seek stay of execution on the judgement.
“We are aware of the judgement of the Court of Appeal Asaba Judicial Division from the briefing received from our Legal Representatives.
“The implication of the said judgement is that our personnel would not be able to attend or rescue crash victims on roads other than federal roads.
However, as at the moment, we are yet to obtain a Certified True Copy of the judgement.
“As soon as we obtain same, we would take time to look at the judgement and make an informed decision on it. Until then, we urge the public to remain calm.”
