The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has assigned Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACP) to oversee the Intelligence Department of the Force at the Zonal and State command levels nationwide.
The decision stemmed from the Inspector General of Police’s commitment to elevate the efficiency of the Intelligence Department at all levels of the Force.
This initiative is seen as a key strategy to combat the rising crime rate in the country, aligning with the IGP’s overarching vision statement.
Upon assuming office, the IGP reactivated the Presidential approval to elevate the Force Intelligence Bureau to the status of a Department. This transformation includes the appointment of DIG Habu Sanni as the head of the newly established Department of Force Intelligence.
The IGP has assigned a crucial responsibility to the recently appointed Senior Officers, urging them to utilize all intelligence-based assets in the fight against crimes and criminal activities within their designated areas of responsibility.
Furthermore, the IGP has emphasised the importance of instilling professionalism and leveraging their extensive experience in carrying out their duties. This directive aims to fortify the already established intelligence framework of the Force.
