The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has shut another branch of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and six other establishments over noise pollution.
Also sealed are Dominion City Church, Red Bar, Farm City, The Odyssey Apartments, Acuma Event Centre and Fortunes Shortlet Apartment.
The establishments are situated in various parts of Lekki Phase 1, Oniru, Lekki and Ajah in the Lagos Island axis of the State.
According to LASEPA, on its X handle, the closure of the RCCG and others was in adherence to its mandate to protect the environment from noise pollution and other infractions.
“We have sealed up several establishments including a lounge, bar, event centre, Churches and residential apartments for violating the State’s environmental regulations.
The government said the measure was taken to address identified instances of noise pollution and other environmental violations.
Confirming the step taken by LASEPA, the State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Honorable Tokunbo Wahab on his ‘X’ handle he made it known that the measure was taken to address identified instances of noise pollution and other environmental violations.
He reiterated that LASEPA remains committed to ensuring a peaceful and sustainable environment that is safer, cleaner and environmentally friendly.
Meanwhile, gollowing public outcry from residents of Akinyemi Street and Alawiye Street, New Ipaja Scheme, AIT Road, Alagbado that about 2 permanently closed inner gates are hindering road users from accessing the alternative road, the operatives of the Drainage Enforcement and Compliance Department from Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources on Wednesday removed the gates to allow free movement.
The commissioner on his ‘X’ page explained that the operatives during the enforcement also removed a security post erected on the main road and were stupefied to discover that the security post also housed a soak-away pit dug on the road
