Popular social media critic, Martins Otse widely known as VeryDarkMan has been arraigned by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) for impersonation.

This followed the use of Police uniform as seen in a viral video clip.

He was subsequently granted bail in the sum of N2 million with two sureties in like sum.

The court also ordered VeryDarkMan to deposit his international passports and any other means of identification.

The Police on Thursday last week condemned the unauthorized use of its official uniforms and accouterments by VDM in a video posted on his social media platforms.

The Force, in a statement by its spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said it had launched an investigation into the circulating video.

The bail terms shared by VDM’s lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, reads: “Two million, two sureties in like terms. Sureties to deposit international passports, sureties to provide means of Identification. Sureties to depose to an affidavit to provide the defendant during trial at all times.

“Prosecutor to verify sureties’ address. Sureties to provide utility bills, defendant to depose to affidavit to be available at all times during trial. Sureties to reside within the Court’s jurisdiction, particularly Abuja municipal.”

Trouble began when VeryDarkMan wore a police uniform and introduced himself as the “chief superintendent of police (CSP) of the online division”.

The police said it would launch an investigation to determine the source of the police gear used and the authority under which the activist acted.

VeryDarkMan would later apologise to the police while emphasizing that he didn’t intend to impersonate the law enforcement agency.

The fitness expert had also revealed that he returned from the police station where he was interrogated based on the controversial footage.
