Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has assured the indigenes of Lagos of his administration’s commitment to ensuring the enrolment of more youths into various military formations.
Sanwo-Olu gave the assurance on Monday, during the departure ceremony for the 88 Regular Recruit Intakes (RRI) from Lagos state, held at the 9 Brigade Nigerian Army Cantonment in Maryland, Ikeja.
He emphasised that the inclusion of more youths in the military would contribute significantly to national security.
The governor, represented by his Deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, noted that the participation of Lagos indigenes in the Nigerian Army would greatly enhance the nation’s security architecture.
According to him: “The Nigerian Army is a symbol of our nation’s resilience, valour, and indomitable spirit,”
Sanwo-Olu encouraged the potential recruits to remain steadfast in their dedication and commitment to serving the country.
“By joining its ranks, you embrace a calling that transcends individual ambition, committing yourselves to the safety, stability, and prosperity of our country. This is no small feat, and we recognise the weight of your commitment, the sacrifices it entails, and the unwavering support you will require,” he said.
He assured the recruits that the Nigerian Army was equally committed to their welfare throughout their service.
“I urge you to internalise the core values of integrity, professionalism, and loyalty. These principles will not only guide your military careers but will also define you as individuals dedicated to the service of humanity,” the governor added.
Sanwo-Olu charged the recruits to be good ambassadors of Lagos State, uphold the values of the Nigerian Army, and make the state proud.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the Commander of the 9 Brigade Nigerian Army, Ikeja Cantonment, Brig. Gen. Olawale Oyekola, commended the Lagos State Government for its commitment to security in the state.
Oyekola expressed delight at the state government’s efforts in attracting more Lagos indigenes to the army’s recruitment process.
