The National Examinations Council (NECO) has blacklisted 14 examination centres for their involvement in malpractice in nine subjects.
Ten of the centres are located in Ogun State, and four centres are located in Oyo State.
Seven supervisors, which include two in Oyo, two in Ogun and one each in Lagos, Cross River and Ebonyi states, were recommended for blacklisting for poor supervision, lateness and for aiding and abetting during the examinations.
The Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of NECO, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi disclosed this during the release of the 2024 Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) External results.
He disclosed that the federal government has come to an agreement that all examination bodies in the country would blacklist any school supervisor or school that is blacklisted by one examination body for malpractice.
“The Federal Ministry of Education has decided that examination bodies, after each examination, where supervisors and centres of examinations that have committed malpractice are blacklisted the same centres and supervisors will be sent to JAMB to blacklist, WAEC to blacklist, NABTA to blacklist, and other examination bodies to blacklist.”
Dangani noted that this step needs to be taken to enable all the examination bodies across the country to have the same status as far as the validity of examinations written in the country and its reliability are concerned.
