Violence erupted in Osogbo, Osun State, on Monday as members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) clashed at the Osogbo Central Local Government Area.
The conflict began when both parties attempted to enter the council secretariat, resulting in gunshots and a man being seen covered in blood, fighting with another suspected hoodlum.
The Osogbo/Ibokun Road, which passes in front of the local government secretariat, was deserted during the shooting.
Armed police operatives were stationed at the entrance, while hoodlums responsible for the gunfire shot sporadically, causing panic in the neighborhood.
Similar incidents occurred in other local government secretariats across the state.
In Atakumosa West, a former member of the Osun State House of Assembly, Festus Komolafe, led elected APC members into the premises, but they left shortly after.
In Egbedore, PDP members wielding canes sang at the entrance, daring APC members to approach them.
The situation was tense at the Olorunda Local Government Secretariat, where APC members attempted to take over but were resisted by PDP members.
Armed police operatives and officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps were present, attempting to calm the situation.
However, Osun State Commissioner for Rural Development, Mr. Gani Olaoluwa, urged PDP members to remain peaceful, stating that there would be no illegal takeover.
