Three members of the security details attached to the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Princess Mojisola Lasbat Meranda have been restored.

This was disclosed at a press briefing by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Moshood Jimoh, who claimed that four security personnel attached to the Speaker who were earlier on withdrawn have since been restored.

However, Rt Hon Meranda, while confirming the restoration of her security details, said only three of the details were returned.

The withdrawal of the security details
attached to the office of the Speaker and her residence have met with serious backlash from Nigrians who condemned the action of the police authorities.

The former Speaker of the assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, had earlier invaded the assembly with armed men in police uniform.

Meanwhile, Nigerians have raised concerns over the sudden withdrawal of Meranda’s security details by the police.

One curious puzzle Nigerians want the police to resolve is the coincidence between the withdrawal of the security details from the speaker and the reinstatement of Obasa’s security details.

“The police has to explain this to Nigerians. Why is it that they withdrew the security details of the substantive speaker and restored those of Obasa, who later used same to break into the Assembly. This is dangerous to the system,” a former reps member from Ikeja stated.

Also, Nigerians have slammed the state commissioner over his remark. The police boss had said that the withdrawal of the security details attached to the speaker and other Very Important Personalities (VIPs) in the state was is in line with an ongoing audit of Police personnel and fire arms.

The explanation by the police boss has been described as an infantile lie by a child who is caught in an awkward situation.

“How can a whole police commissioner come out and say this. He needs to look for a better lie next time he wants to cover up a mistake,” a resident of Lagos said.
