Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has sounded a stern warning to traditional rulers, declaring that any monarch who fails to maintain peace in their community will be removed from office without hesitation.
In a statement issued by his Media Spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke specifically called out the rulers of Ifon and Ilobu/Erin-Osun communities in Orolu and Irepodun Local Government Areas, warning that they will face swift consequences if fresh violence erupts under their watch.
The governor’s fiery declaration comes amid reports of faceless groups allegedly plotting another wave of attacks in the volatile areas.
“In the midst of the Sallah celebrations, I received intelligence about plans to reignite hostilities in Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin-Osun towns,” Adeleke said.
He assured residents that security agencies have ramped up surveillance and are fast-tracking interrogations of key figures linked to the unrest.
“Let me make it clear—any traditional ruler who fails to control his subjects and prevent violence will be removed. This is not a threat; it is a promise.
“The peace agreements signed by community leaders are not mere formalities; there will be accountability before the law.
“We relaxed the curfew out of compassion, knowing innocent citizens are suffering due to the reckless actions of a few. But let no one mistake our kindness for weakness—if violence erupts again, the 24-hour curfew will return in full force.
“I will wield the big stick without fear or favour. Enough is enough!” the governor warned.
With tensions running high, all eyes are now on the affected communities as the government moves to enforce strict peace measures.
