The Lagos State Government has issued a firm warning to motorists, stressing that speed limits on designated roads are legally binding and must be obeyed for public safety.
Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, cited Section 28(2)(a) of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law (2018) as the legal authority empowering the state to penalise speed violators.
Dismissing misinformation about traffic signs, Osiyemi made it clear that the Ministry of Transportation alone determines the size, colour, and type of traffic signs across Lagos, ensuring they meet international standards.
Slamming the spread of falsehoods regarding speed limits enforcement, the Commissioner clarified that speed cameras are currently operational only on Alapere Road and Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, following extensive studies.
However, he hinted that more locations may soon be added after further reviews.
He stressed that the cameras are not revenue-driven but aimed at saving lives, urging motorists to respect speed regulations to prevent accidents.
“For official information, the public is advised to check the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation website, verified social media accounts, or contact relevant traffic authorities,” he said.
