Lucky Aiyedatiwa, deputy governor of Ondo, has been sworn in as the substantive governor of the state.

Aiyedatiwa was sworn in on Wednesday at the government house, Alagbaka, Akure, the state capital, after the death of Rotimi Akeredolu, the governor of Ondo.

In his speech shorty after the swearing-in, the new governor said it was with a heavy heart he took over the reins of the governance of the state after the death of Akeredolu.

He said: “It is a devastating thing for us to lose our dear governor. This is a monumental loss. It is a great loss to me as an individual.”

Aiyedatiwa was the deputy governor until Wednesday, December 13 when power was formally transferred to him after Akeredolu went on another medical vacation.
