The curtains were drawn Wednesday, 24th of January, 2024 on the State Executive Council set up by the former governor of Ondo State, the late Rotimi Akeredolu.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa sacked the commissioners, special advisers, Senior Special Assistants (SSAs) and Special Assistants (SAs).
The governor also nominated a politician from Owo, hometown of his former boss, Dr. Olayide Adelami, as deputy governor.
Adelami, former Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly, will appear for screening before the House of Assembly. In 2020, he stepped down for the late Akeredolu ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary.
It was the first major shake-up since Ayedatiwa was inaugurated in December last year, following the passing on of Akeredolu after a protracted illness.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Ebenezer Adeniyan, said the dissolved State Executive Council was with immediate effect.
It directed the former commissioners, Special advisers and other aides to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries or the most senior administrative officers in their respective offices.
The statement added: “All the affected officials are directed to hand over all government properties in their possession. The governor thanks the affected officials for their services and contributions to the development of the state.”
Aiyedatiwa’s letter on Adelami’s nomination, was read at plenary by the Speaker of House of Assembly Olamide Oladiji.
He said the governor acted in line with Section 191(3)b&c of the 1999 Constitution as amended.
Oladiji said:”Dr Adelami who hails from Owo in Owo Local Government Area of the State is expected to appear before the House on 25th January, 2024 (today) for screening.”
