The Minister of State for Youth Development, Mr. Ayodele Olawande, has called on young people to distance themselves from the upcoming nationwide protest, stating that President Bola Tinubu is open to dialogue.

Olawande made this statement in Lagos on during an event marking the third anniversary of Chairman Moyosore Ogunlewe’s tenure at Kosofe Local Government.

While acknowledging the difficulties Nigerians are facing, Olawande expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s dedication to addressing these issues, noting the president’s willingness to listen and engage in constructive discussions.

He stated, “The president is open to dialogue and not opposed to protest, but he is committed to engaging with anyone without intimidation. He is a leader who listens to both the people and those at the grassroots level.”

Olawande stressed that overcoming challenges is never easy, noting that even global standards show that subsidy removal often comes with increased difficulties.

He advised the youth to avoid being swayed by political motives and not to follow those who might exploit the situation for political gain.

The minister also stated that the president is free from any controlling cabals and has recently approved student loans to ensure that financial constraints do not force students out of school.

He stated further that local government autonomy has been strengthened to ensure that the benefits of democracy reach the grassroots.

Olawande acknowledged the current hardships but suggested that the administration needs time to reverse the setbacks caused by previous governments.

He compared the situation to driving a car in reverse gear, stating that the president is now shifting it into neutral, with the goal of eventually moving forward.

He expressed optimism that by the end of this administration’s term, the country will be pleased with the president’s achievements, reflecting on his successful tenure in Lagos as a testament to his capabilities.

Olawande therefore urged the youth and the general public not to allow themselves to be used to create unrest in the country.
