Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday, presented cheques of over N1.5 billion to 150 beneficiaries whose land or property had been demolished for road, school constructions, and other facilities.

Sanwo-Olu, who spoke during the cheque presentation ceremony, said: “Today represents a moment where partnerships between citizens and government converge to shape a prosperous future. Hence, we are not only honouring commitment but also reinforcing our dedication to creating a state that serves its people.”

The governor said that as a government, it recognises not only the invaluable support landowners have provided for the state’s ambitious development initiatives but also the spirit of cooperation and commitment they have shown toward the shared vision for a better Lagos.

Sanwo-Olu, therefore, encouraged the beneficiaries to use the compensation judiciously by investing in ventures that would yield enduring benefits for them and their families.

The Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Land Bureau, Kamar Olowoshago, thanked the governor and the landowners for the mutually beneficial partnership.

Olowoshago said by acquiring these lands, the State Government had been able to execute projects that fostered a more organised, efficient, and economically viable environment for all citizens.

The initiatives, according to the Permanent Secretary, support the state’s goals in urban renewal, transport modernisation, job creation, and improved public safety, reflecting the state’s commitment to holistic development and improved quality of life.

“We acknowledge the significant role our beneficiaries have played in bringing these projects to life. You have demonstrated understanding and cooperation by allowing the State Government to use your land for the greater good, thus playing an essential role in our collective journey towards building a more livable and economically vibrant Lagos,” Olowoshago added.
