The wave of infrastructure development in Lagos State continued on Tuesday as Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu commissioned four newly completed road projects in Oriade Town, Amuwo Odofin.
The Governor inaugurated the reconstructed Old Ojo Road, creating a faster alternative route for commuters travelling on the Lagos-Badagry axis.
He also commissioned the rehabilitated and upgraded Mumuni Adio Road (formerly Buba Marwa Road), Irede Road, and Navy Town Road—all located in the Oriade area of Amuwo Odofin.
These projects form part of the 36 road infrastructure developments delivered by the Sanwo-Olu administration across the three senatorial districts in the state.
The 7.65-kilometre Old Ojo Road, extending from Irede to Maza Maza, was completed in two phases. The first phase, spanning 4 kilometres from Irede Road to Oluti Bus Stop, was among the four projects commissioned. Governor Sanwo-Olu assured residents that the second phase would be completed in the coming quarters.
Highlighting the upgrades, the Governor explained that the 2.2-kilometre Irede Road, previously a single carriageway, has been expanded and dualised using Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement (CRCP).
He noted that the infrastructure will serve commuters connecting Lagos-Badagry Expressway at Trade Fair Bus Stop and provide access to Irede Jetty, a crucial link for water transportation to riverine communities such as Ibasa, Ibeshe, Ilashe, and Imoore.
“Today, we are commissioning yet another network of roads on the ever-growing list of life-changing public infrastructure that we have delivered to our people. Before now, one of the most critical challenges constantly experienced by residents and road users along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway and environs was the perennial gridlock, translating into travel inconvenience, loss of productive time, frustration, and stress.
“Inauguration of these critical infrastructure projects is a testament to the fact that we are not unmindful of the pains of the people in this area. Our primary objective has been to provide lasting transport infrastructure and a strategic traffic management solution aimed at easing traffic congestion. It is also worth pointing out that we have gone the extra mile with these four roads, ensuring their upgrade from traditional asphalt into what is called Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement,” Sanwo-Olu said.
He expressed particular satisfaction with the rehabilitation of the 3.2-kilometre Mumuni Adio Road, which had previously deteriorated due to heavy axle loads from articulated vehicles transporting petroleum products and goods.
The new concrete rigid pavement, he assured, will provide a durable and smooth experience for road users.
The road will also serve as a crucial artery in the Ijegun Egba area, offering vital access to tank farms, the Ijegun Egba Jetty, and other industrial facilities.
Sanwo-Olu reiterated his administration’s commitment to infrastructure renewal, announcing that more project inaugurations would follow in Alimosho, Eti-Osa, and other areas in the coming days.
Appealing to residents and stakeholders to protect the newly constructed infrastructure, the Governor said: “I urge all stakeholders, including residents, drivers, traders, commuters, transport unions, and shop owners, to do everything in your power to safeguard these projects and ensure that there is zero tolerance for vandalism and abuse.”
Special Adviser on Infrastructure, Engr. Olufemi Daramola, emphasised the economic and developmental significance of the projects for Amuwo Odofin, stating: “These infrastructure improvements totalling 10.10 kilometres have transformed the transportation landscape in Amuwo Odofin, boosting accessibility, safety, and economic activity in the area. Together, these projects are part of the broader infrastructural vision that aligns with the T.H.E.M.E.S.+ agenda, particularly in Transportation and Traffic Management.”
The Chairman of Oriade Local Council Development Area, Mrs Ramotalai Akintola-Hassan, commended the Governor for fulfilling his promises to residents, noting that the projects had alleviated the challenges associated with commuting on the roads.
