AS Roma midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum broke his leg in training on Sunday, casting major doubts on his participation at the World Cup set to hold later this year in Qatar. The Dutch midfielder, who joined Roma on loan from Paris Saint-Germain two weeks ago, is expected to be out for a while.

Roma are yet to reveal how long the Premier League and Champions League winner will be out for. According to a statement from the Italian club, the extent of the injury sustained by the Rotterdam-born Wijnaldum, who has 86 caps for the Netherlands national team, will be investigated further in the coming days. The Netherlands are in Group A at the World Cup, which begins on 20 November, along with Senegal, Ecuador and hosts Qatar.
