Erling Haaland’s 10th goal in six games was not enough for Manchester City at the Villa Park as Leon Bailey clawed a draw for the Villans.
Bailey struck a sweet first-time shot to make it 1-1 in the 74th minute after Haaland had scored in the 50th minute Haaland tested Villa keeper Emiliano Martinez twice and De Bruyne also hit the crossbar with a 22-yard free-kick but it just was not to be for Pep Guardiola’s side.
Steven Gerrard would have been forgiven for thinking his side had scored a winner when Philippe Coutinho put the ball in the net off the underside of the bar but the assistant referee had already raised his flag for offside.
City would have moved to the top of the table, at least pending when log leaders Arsenal will play at the Old Trafford against Manchester United on Sunday, but instead are second with a point behind the Gunners.
