Sporting Lisbon and Arsenal played a thrilling 2-2 draw in Portugal in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League encounter.
William Saliba became the eighth different Arsenal player to score for the club in the Europa League this season when he opened the scoring with a powerful header in the 22nd minute.
Sporting took advantage of poor defending to score through Goncalo Inacio and Dias Fernandes (Paulinho) in the 34th and 55th minute before a 62nd minute own goal by the hosts’ Japanese midfielder Hidemasa Morita ensured Arsenal will start on level terms when the teams meet in the return leg at Emirates Stadium next Thursday.
Mikel Arteta was not happy about the performance and stated in his post Marc reactions that the team needed a much-improved performance to keep in line with set target for the season.
