The Super Eagles of Nigeria today avenged their home defeat to Guinea-Bissau last Friday with a 1-0 win against the Djurtus at the Estadio 24 de Setembro in Bissau.

Winger Moses Simon stepped up to score from the penalty spot in the 30th minute after rightback Bright Osayi Samuel was fouled inside the box.

Nigeria had chances to double the lead but suffered from profligacy.

The win sees the Super Eagles get to nine points which has pushed Nigeria back to the top of the Group A standings with two games left in the round of qualifiers.

Victor Osimhen, joint topscorer in the qualifiers with Senegal’s Sadio Mane on five goals, was the cynosure of the home fans as they invaded the pitch immediately after the blast of the final whistle by Samir Guezzaz.
