The trio of Inspr. Dahiru Shuaibu, Sgt. Abdullahi Badamasi, and Sgt. Isah Danladi attached to a musician in Kano on escort duties has been dismissed for the offenses of discreditable conduct with misuse of firearms, abuse of power, gross indiscipline and wastage of live ammunition.
Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi made this known in a statement on Thursday.
Last Friday, a video began to circulate on social media depicting officers from the Special Protection Unit (SPU) Base 1 in Kano engaging in high-handedness, unprofessional conduct and misuse of firearms.
The footage led to widespread complaints and concerns, prompting an investigation by the Force Provost Marshal.
The dismissed officers were found guilty of discreditable conduct, including the misuse of firearms, abuse of power, gross indiscipline, and wastage of live ammunition.
It was determined that the officers were on escort duty for a musician in Kano and repeatedly fired shots from their official firearms into the air, in contravention of police policy against firing in the air, standard operating procedures, and relevant Force Orders.
Their actions put the crowd at the location, including children, at risk and were deemed both criminal and unprofessional, bringing embarrassment to the Force and the nation as a whole.
